When reading marketing news online, I want to read exclusive content so I can be on top of all the latest developments in my field. There is nothing worse than telling colleagues about a merger you just read about, only to have the tell you they read the original story last week. The same goes for exclusive interviews. I have learned it’s best to check the news everyday online for exclusives.

Media news goes along with marketing news. I read both as they are so closely related. Besides exclusives, it’s nice to have syndicated content from blogs around the world all organized for me by author and topic. I find that many bloggers put a unique spin on news, or present it in a different light.

I find articles in media news and marketing news websites about colleagues who jumped ship and started their own advertising or media agencies are what impress my colleagues the most. It appears as if I have inside information, or know these people personally, which I do not. I just know enough to keep up on current events so I can join in water cooler conversations. These conversations have done more to help my career than anything else I have done as it’s a big office and it’s hard to get noticed any other way.
